Are You Washing Your Lashes?

Many people think that cleaning your natural lashes isn’t as important as cleaning your eyelash extensions.

But, I’m here to tell you that this simply isn’t true.

And it all begins with a story of mites. Yes! Mites…

Let me explain…

You may have heard of mites, parasites that live on human skin cells.

Well, you might be surprised to know that there are mites that also live and breed in your lashes. There are two types of mites that live on the eyelashes and they have very long Latin names– Demodex folliculorum and Demodex brevis.

Demodex folliculorum is the one that will most likely affect your eyelashes, as it feeds on your dead skin cells around your lashes. Not only that…

This particular parasite will also affect other areas of the eye, such as your eyelids. They are naturally present in your hair follicles. Most of the time they are harmless and remain unnoticed to the human eye.

But…

Once they breed and you get an infestation of them, this can really cause unwanted symptoms as I’ll point out below.

Warning! This is definitely not for the faint-hearted…

So, let’s jump right into it…

These skin problems include:

• Itchiness around the eyelashes and surrounding skin
• Scaly and rough patches around the skin
• Redness around the eyes
• Burn-like sensation in your eyes

Since these mites are microscopic you can’t actually see them with the naked eye, so you won’t be able to diagnose an infestation yourself.

You should make an appointment with your local doctor if you suspect you might have the symptoms listed above.

And…

Unfortunately, the majority of people are unaware of the existence of these repulsive little parasites. Now you might be thinking, what can I do about this?

Don’t worry…

As I mentioned earlier, you can proactively reduce the chance of having this problem with the simple application of lash-care products specifically designed for cleaning and maintaining your eyelashes.

Remember, it is just as important to clean your natural lashes with your lash extensions at least 2-3 times a week especially after wearing makeup!
