How To Regrow Your Botched Brows and Getting Them Back On Point (PART 1)
Patience is a virtue
The first step to botched brows from overplucking is to be patient and allow time for your eyebrows to grow back. Sometimes we can get into a habit of trying to pluck and tweeze our brows to correct any flaws, but this only makes matters worse.
Stop! Avoid the temptation and put those tweezers down. They will eventually grow in.
How long does it take for brow hairs to grow back?
Eyebrow hairs generally have a slow regrowth cycle and it can vary for each individual. On average eyebrow hairs can take up to 3-6 months and up to 12 months for slower-growing hairs to reach their full regrowth length. Having said that, there are some simple ways that can help speed up this process. So please read on…
Gentle massaging and brushing
Giving your brows a daily gentle massage is a simple yet effective way to stimulate blood flow circulation in the brow region and promote hair growth. This can be done as a night routine just before you go to bed.
Place a small amount of natural oil such as castor or coconut oil onto your fingertips
Gently massage your brow area with a round circular motion in the direction of hair growth (1-2 minutes).
Keep the oil on for 30 minutes.
Wipe off oil with a makeup remover pad and wash your face with warm water.
To give your brows an added boost you can use a spoolie or brow brush to comb and brush your eyebrow hairs in an upward fashion. Combing can produce the same effect as massaging, facilitating circulation and growth.
Avoid lotions and heavy makeup
Yes, we know it’s not practical to completely give up your favourite lotions, cosmetics and sunscreen… it’s a part of everyday life and moisturisers are good for our skin. Having said that, there are steps you can take to reduce the amount that comes into contact with your brow hairs. When applying lotions and creams make sure you don’t touch your brow area.
If you do get some on your brow hairs simply use a dry makeup remover pad and gently dab your brow area to remove any excess. Use another wet makeup remover pad to clean up any residue and finish off with another dry pad to pat dry.
Natural Oils & Brow Serums
Oils such as extra virgin coconut and olive oil are known natural remedies that have the ability to strengthen the roots of hair follicles preventing breakage and promotes hair growth.
Coconut oil:Coconut oil is rich in fatty acids and nutrients that are good for skin and hair. It’s also a natural moisturiser which will help nourish your brows keeping them vibrant and beautiful.
Olive oil:Olive oil contains vitamin A and E which work together to promote stronger, healthier and thicker brows.
Castor oil: Castor oil is also another option and good for eyebrow growth as it’s enriched with proteins, fatty acids and vitamins that help nourish hair follicles
Apply any of the oils mentioned above with a cotton bud or ball, and then massage the brow using a fine eyebrow brush moving it in circular motions in the same direction as the hair growth. You can also use your finger tips to massage brows but you must remember to be gentle. Ensure the oil is covering the skin above and below the brow. Try to avoid getting any oils into your eyes, but if they do get into your eyes simply flush your eyes with water. For coconut and olive oil you can leave the oil on overnight and gently wipe off any residue in the morning before washing your face.
Castor oil may be slightly more sensitive for some people, so it’s recommended that you apply the oil for 30 minutes and then remove the excess. Finally, finish the routine with a face wash.
Note: coconut, olive and castor oil are both generally safe to use on the skin, but for added precaution it’s best to test your skin’s sensitivity on small area of your skin or your inner wrist before applying to your eyebrows.
Brow serums strengthen your existing brow hairs and stimulate new hair growth. Most serums contain a combination of peptides, biotin and lipids as core ingredients which can make your brow hairs grow more quickly. A professional brow artist can recommend products that will make your brows look better than ever.
